Item 70818
Figure on Plinth |
| Fragment of human figurine standing on plinth. Broken across figure at lower legs just above ankles. Right front corner of pplinth preserved as is part of front. Left and back of plinth missing. Damage to front of right foot. Figure stands frontally with both feet slightly splayed outwards; the right foot, although damaged, extends slightly beyond the left. There is no trace of a garment on the legs. The feet are not further articulated and one cannot determine whether the figure was wearing footgear. The plinth is high with a curved torus molding at the top and at the bottom there is a linear, single stepped molding, although on the right side those moldings are less precise. Below the top molding on the front of the plinth, there are abundant traces of red paint, and with the scope, one can see sporadic traces of what looks to be red pigment on the left foot. The front surface of the figurine has surface color modulation, likely the result of the firing process. The bottom resting surface of the plinth remains only beneath the right front corner. The inside of the fragment is abraded and the figurine would have been hollow. It seems certain that the figurine and plinth were formed from the same mold. |
