| Fragment of female figurine preserving head with hair. Squarish face framed by unarticulated band of hair low on forehead and temples. Small eyes with upper and lower lids in relief. Rather small nose. Mouth abraded. Unusual features is additional clay added to sides of head, suggesting an applied cap, although broken, suggestive of a lion's skin. Possibly female molded face reused for male type--Herakles? |

Mudbrick and stone fill, containing pebble to cobble-sized, with a few boulder-sized,
stones concentrated mostly at the lower part of the locus. Excavated 4 m. from the North
balk and 4 m. from the East balk at top level 481.87 m. (E) 481.80 m. (W) below Debris I7001
to bottom level 480.95 m. (E), 481.42 m. (W) above Cobble Layer I7004 and Debris I7006.

| Ware Paste: Color--5YR yellowish red 6/6, Inclusions--some small lime, some small ceramics, Firing--no core, Hardness--hard. Exterior--slip 10YR white 8/2. Broken irregularly across neck and on left side of hair. Top of hair missing. Damage to nose and mouth. Solid - Single -Frontal mold. Chin to bottom of hair line: 1.25; Jaw to jaw below ears: 1.34; Outer eye to outer eye: 1.03; Width of left eye: 0.35; Width of right eye: 0.34; Height of left eye: 0.20; Height of right eye: 0.20; Length of nose: 0.60. Herakles head with lion skin cap? Re-use of female molded face for another type? 3rd c. B.C. or later? | |||
