DigMasterII
the online collection of collections for the humanities

Welcome to DigMaster.

DigMasterII can best be described as a collection of collections for archaeology and art history. There are numerous ways for you to view the data within DigMaster so we will help you get started by giving you some shortcuts...

The original DigMaster project was started in 1993 at the Cobb Institute of Archaeology, Mississippi State University. The project was devoted to providing new ways to share archaeological information from ongoing dig seasons before they reached final publication. Ten years of dig seasons, research, and technological improvements have brought the project to the iteration that you see here. We hope that this version of DigMaster will prove to be more intuitive and offer more information than any other archeology resource available today.

Of course, this will take the efforts of more people than the previous encarnation of DigMaster did. Peer review and involvement is a major aspect of DigMasterII, so you can offer your own insights, as well as pose questions about specific pieces of data. This interaction will hopefully bring about some enlightening sharing of information and knowledge as the project continues.

Additionally, DigMasterII has been expanded to allow other types of data to be stored—and searched— along-side archaeological data. Museum collections can now be included in DigMasterII and compared to topical dig items. Further, DigMasterII also allows for a variety of dig organization methods to be integrated and compared.
